Severinghaus Assistant Professor Appointments for the 2017-2018 Academic Year

We are pleased to announce that the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care has extended the Severinghaus Assistant Professor title for Philip Kurien, MD, and Wei Zhou, MD, PhD, through the academic year 2017 - 2018. Named for Professor Emeritus John Severinghaus, MD, this title honors two Assistant Professors in the Department whose research shows exciting promise, particularly in areas related to Dr. Severinghaus’s primary interest in applying physiological understanding to problems in human medicine.

Dr. Kurien joined the faculty in August 2014. Under the guidance of his mentor, Louis Ptacek, MD and co-mentors Ying-Hui Fu, PhD and Judith Hellman, MD, his research project, Accelerated Recovery of Circadian Rhythm and Monocyte Function, is currently funded by a FAER Mentored Research Grant.

Dr. Zhou joined the faculty in July 2015. Currently, he holds a two-year Mentored Research Award from the IARS for his project The Roles and Applications of Orexin/Hypocretin System in Anesthesia. He is mentored by Lily Jan, Roland Bainton, MD, PhD and Judith Hellman, MD.

Please join us in congratulating Drs. Kurien and Zhou for this achievement.
