Education

Our department is proud to sponsor training programs for medical students, residents, and fellows. The strengths of our programs include our challenging and diverse training environments and talented faculty who are committed to teaching. For UCSF medical students, we offer a core clerkship that provides a rich understanding of perioperative care. Both UCSF and visiting students can participate in elective rotations that provide experiences in subspecialties of anesthesia. The anesthesia residency is among the largest in the country, and has a well-earned reputation for producing outstanding clinicians who have become leaders in the field. 

As the health care environment has become progressively more complex, we have developed fellowship programs that foster development of advanced skills in specialized areas of clinical care, research, and teaching. We are dedicated to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and supportive training environment that encourages the continued growth of each of our trainees.
