Jim Marks, MD, PhD, knows how to solve complex problems on a large scale. For two decades, he and his lab have developed monoclonal antibodies targeting botulinum neurotoxins in preparation for a hypothetical mass intoxication event. Over the past year and a half, Dr. Marks has applied this experience to his role as Planning Section Chief of the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital COVID Command Center. In recognition of his contributions to San Francisco’s COVID-19 response, we’re delighted to announce that SF Mayor London Breed has declared July 20, 2021 as Jim Marks Day in San Francisco! Dr. Marks joins UCSF Anesthesia and Perioperative Care faculty member and UCSF Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Outreach Renee Navarro, PharmD, MD, who was honored on June 18, 2003, with J. Renee Navarro Day in San Francisco by then-Mayor Willie Brown.
