IGNITE - Innovative Growth, Network, and Improvement in Anesthesia Training and Education

The UCSF Anesthesia Faculty Development Program, IGNITE, is a structured initiative designed to foster professional fulfillment, growth, and recognition among faculty and fellows in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care. This program supports diverse professional identities including clinician educators, clinician scientists, and quality improvement leaders.

Program structure and tracks

The program is designed to support faculty fellows to:

  • Design and implement a specific education scholarship project
  • Participate in Teaching Scholars Program
  • Learn the institutional infrastructure that supports education, including GME resources
  • Apply for external funding for research projects on education
     

2025-2026 current fellow: Arthur Chyan, DO

The program is designed to support faculty fellows to:

  • Design and implement quality improvement projects.
  • Participate in Lean Health Coach training.
  • Learn how to leverage Epic tools to gather data (Cogito, Caboodle, Clarity, Slicer Dicer).
  • Lead departmental quality Improvement training and teaching.
     

2025-2026 current fellow: Nicholas Mendez, MD

The program is designed to support faculty fellows to:

  • Provide a formalized program that is foundational in our efforts to train and develop anesthesiologist researchers by providing a rigorous individualized training program.
  • Receive mentored research training, protected research time, didactic training in relevant research topics, the opportunity to present their work regularly at departmental seminars and research symposia, and other resources that are necessary for their successful progression through the stages of training to research independence.
