Fellowships

Types of fellowships

ACGME-accredited fellowships include cardiothoracic anesthesia, critical care medicine, obstetric anesthesia, pain medicine, acute pain medicine/regional anesthesia, and pediatric anesthesia. Clinical Instructor Programs include advanced clinical simulation, global health, neuroanesthesia, and trauma anesthesia. We also offer fellowships for surgical and critical care nurse practitioners. Based on our strong tradition of pursuing excellence in research, we also offer fellowships in translational research.

ACGME

Cardiac Anesthesia

The UCSF Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program focusing on the perioperative care of patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery.

Clinical Informatics

The UCSF Clinical Informatics Fellowship (CIF) is a two year program for physicians who have successfully completed any ACGME/ABMS residency and who wish to develop and advance a professional and primary interest in informatics.

Critical Care Anesthesiology Fellowship

The Critical Care Anesthesiology Fellowship program at UCSF provides training to physicians who have completed residency training in anesthesiology and other eligible specialties per the ACGME.

Obstetric Anesthesia

The UCSF Pain Management Center specializes in the multidisciplinary management of patients suffering from acute, chronic, and cancer pain.

Pediatric Anesthesia

The UCSF Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship is a 12 month, ACGME-accredited program offering an outstanding clinical fellowship experience. Our boutique program currently accepts four fellows per year. Because of the small program size, fellows are able to tailor their year to maximize learning. Qualified and interested fellows can extend their training to include an additional advanced year fellowship in research or pediatric cardiac anesthesia.

Regional Anesthesia

The UCSF Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship is a one-year, ACGME accredited program focusing on advanced techniques on perioperative pain management and regional anesthetic techniques.

Clinical Instructor Programs

Global Health Equity Fellowship

The Anesthesia Global Health Equity Fellowship is a one-year non-ACGME fellowship pathway based at UCSF’s Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Liver Transplant Anesthesia Fellowship

Our liver transplant anesthesia fellows work with an outstanding team of liver transplant anesthesiologists and surgeons at one of the busiest transplant centers in the country.

Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship

The advanced clinical training year for pediatric cardiac anesthesia provides specialized training for physicians who have completed anesthesia training in an ACGME accredited program in the United States and are board-eligible, or have completed training in a program outside the United States and are board-equivalent.

Research Fellowship

The UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care’s research training program has a longstanding mission to train and foster the development of the next generation of physicians and scientists to push forward discovery and knowledge related to the care of patients whose management falls within the wide purview of anesthesiology.

Non ACGME

Neuroanesthesia Fellowship

The program aims to provide the individual one year of fellowship training in neuroanesthesia.

Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Anesthesia Fellowship

The UCSF/ZSFG Trauma & Acute Care Anesthesia Fellowship is designed to prepare anesthesiologists with the foundational skills and experiences to become leaders in the field of Trauma and Acute Care Anesthesia. It is further designed to hone the skills necessary for the management of acute surgical patients.

Perioperative Quality and Patient Safety Fellowship

The Department of Anesthesia supports a robust quality improvement program with leaders at multiple sites and in multiple subspecialties.
