Assistant Professor in Residence Elizabeth Whitlock, MD, MS, Awarded NIH R03 Grant to Study Cognitive Change in Elderly after Cardiac Surgery

Do elderly patients undergoing coronary revascularization procedures suffer higher rates of cognitive decline than those undergoing cardiac catheterization procedures? Dr. Elizabeth Whitlock, assistant professor in residence in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care, has been awarded an R03 grant from the NIH’s National Institute on Aging to answer this important question. 

Project Title: “Impact of Coronary Revascularization on Longitudinal Cognitive Change in the Elderly.”

Dr. Whitlock is a graduate of the UCSF Anesthesia and Perioperative Care’s Innovative Anesthesia Research Residency Track, and was also a T32 postdoctoral trainee in the Department’s Pathway to Scientific Independence Program.
