Dr. Behrends, a medical graduate of University of Gottingen, Germany, completed his anesthesia residency at University of Essen. He began his UCSF career in 2004, with clinical and research activities focused on the Acute Pain Service. He is also a member of the Regional Anesthesia Team, and has been actively engaged in services that work closely with the Pain Team, such as providing anesthesia for orthopedic and spine surgeries, and consulting in the Prepare Clinic and the PACU.
Since January, 2015, Dr. Ramana “Ramo” Naidu has served with distinction as our Acute Pain Director, spearheading multiple patient pain care initiatives to improve the quality and safety of pain care at UCSF Health, including the opioid equivalence table, patient-provider opioid agreements, IP3, and serving as chair of the Pain Committee. Dr. Naidu will be pursuing private practice as of September, 2017. A national search is being conducted for this role.
