After 5 years of leadership, Professor Scott Schulman, MD, MHS, will step down as Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia at Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco, in order to concentrate on research development and clinical care in the OR and cardiac ICU.

Since arriving from Duke, Dr. Schulman has overseen extraordinary growth of pediatric cardiac anesthesia, now one of the busiest programs on the West Coast.  He has built an outstanding team, and provided strong leadership, for which we are deeply grateful.

Professor Kathryn Rouine-Rapp, MD, has agreed to serve as interim chief, while we begin a national search for a successor.  Dr. Rouine-Rapp brings many years of experience to this role, having previously served as Director of the UCSF Prepare Clinic at Moffitt-Long Hospital from 2005-2010, and on the National Board of Medical Examiners for the Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiographic Examination starting in 2007. She is a nationally recognized expert in congenital heart disease, as well as in the use of perioperative transesophageal echocardiography for both adult and pediatric cardiac patients.

Please join us in thanking Dr. Schulman for his dedicated service as chief, and welcoming Dr. Rouine-Rapp to her new role.
