We are currently investigating the mechanism of neuronal injury and the role of activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) in SCI. Our study showed ATF3 is one of the most upregulated early response genes after SCI by RNA sequencing and is specifically induced in spinal cord neurons acutely after injury. We are studying the molecular mechanism of ATF3-mediated neuroprotection after SCI by single cell RNA sequencing, and investigating its function in tissue repair and regeneration. In addition, we are also interested in studying the potential of ATF3 as a biomarker for acute central nervous system injuries.
