Overview This work is funded by an administrative supplement to the NIH-funded UCSF Department of Anesthesia T32 grant (Administrative Supplement for Curriculum or Training Activities to Enhance Wellness and Resiliency in the Training Environment). Despite their unique and valuable contributions to biomedical research, there is a dearth of physician-scientists in the physician workforce. By interviewing anesthesiologist physician-scientists and mentors, we have identified several threats to well-being. Interventions underway include delivering new tools for overcoming barriers that currently detract from well-being, specifically those related to impostor phenomenon, navigating promotions, and optimizing scheduling to protect research productivity.
