Faculty development

Our department is committed to investing in the personal and professional growth of our faculty and to fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration and belonging. We believe that developing a professional identity in academic medicine and having agency over the career trajectory are essential ingredients for a thriving and innovative faculty.

Department programs

This program is designed for the new faculty joining our department. It consists in a structured orientation to our multiple sites and a day of onboarding activities, followed by ongoing opportunities to learn about career development in our department and beyond, to connect with mentors and peers and to set the foundations for a successful career.

This coaching program provides 1:1 coaching for faculty with trained coaches in our department. Coaching is a process that evokes faculty autonomy, thought and creativity by using faculty-generated solutions/strategies.  With a focus on wellness, the coach promotes self-discovery, accountability, and forward momentum.

UCSF programs

Campus Council on Faculty Life, through the support of the Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs, provides programs to foster careers and support for faculty in balancing their personal and professional lives.
