Overview A substantial number of patients develop chronic pain following surgical treatment. This condition, known as chronic post-surgical pain (CPSP), is associated with increased chronic opioid use, higher healthcare costs, and worse post-operative outcomes. As a uniquely subjective and multifactorial condition, CPSP presents significant challenges in observation and management within the clinical setting, requiring more nuanced and comprehensive approaches for identification and treatment. We are developing and implementing multiple innovative approaches that leverage AI to alert surgeons to patients at high-risk for CPSP and improve their perioperative treatment approaches. Our approach will not only deepen the clinical understanding of CPSP by implicating modifiable risk factors but also broadly advance the integration of AI-driven personalized medicine into clinical practice.
