Thank you for your interest in the OB Anesthesiology fellowship at UCSF!

We offer two one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship positions through the SF Match. The goal of this fellowship is to provide excellent training and hands-on experience to shape fellows into experts in the field of obstetric anesthesiology. Graduates from the program have joined a robust network of fellowship alumni and become successful OB anesthesiology leaders in both private practice and academic settings.

Fellows will primarily rotate at UCSF Mission Bay, which handles a delivery volume of approximately 3,500 annually. Under the mentorship of a dedicated group of fellowship-trained obstetric anesthesiologists, fellows will gain extensive clinical experience. They will also work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment alongside specialists in Maternal Fetal Medicine, Cardiology, Hematology, Critical Care Medicine, and Neonatology and provide care to a diverse patient population, including medically complex cases referred from outside hospitals. UCSF is a referral center for patients with adherent placental disease, and fellows will be actively involved in both the pre-operative workup and delivery for these patients.

In addition to clinical training, fellows will participate in an educational curriculum that includes weekly multidisciplinary conferences, morbidity and mortality reviews, and lectures.

The fellowship curriculum follows ACGME guidelines, which include:

  • 7 months of labor and delivery clinical activity
  • 2 weeks of maternal-fetal medicine
  • 2 weeks of neonatology
  • 3 months of research and scholarly activity integrated throughout the year

We also offer flexibility to tailor the fellowship experience. Special considerations are made to personalize the year and align it with each fellow’s interests and career goals.
