A room for mothers and their newborns at UCSF Health

Obstetric Anesthesia

Mission Bay Labor and Delivery Unit continues to provide care for a diverse and complex patient population and remains a major referral center for maternal and fetal/neonatal care. One of our major challenges has been the amount of time the unit has been on divert for various reasons. It is a unit-wide priority to decrease the number of hours the unit spends on divert and the number of patients that are diverted away from UCSF.

By the numbers:

Total deliveries in 2023 Vaginal deliveries Cesarean deliveries Labor epidurals placed Cesarean delivery rate
2,475 1,715 760 1,346 30.7%
