July 17, 2023 By Rachelle Armstrong We are very excited and pleased to announce Dr. Jocelyn Wong as the new UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals Transbay Director of Pediatric Regional Anesthesia and Perioperative Pain Medicine. Dr. Wong completed her anesthesiology residency at Stanford University, followed by her pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Subsequently, she completed her pediatric pain medicine fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, where she later joined faculty as a clinical assistant professor. At CHLA, she practiced as an acute and chronic pain medicine physician, a pediatric regional anesthesiologist, and pediatric anesthesiologist specializing in craniofacial surgeries, complex plastic surgeries, and difficult airway cases. She recently moved back to the Bay Area and joined UCSF Benioff as a clinical assistant professor. She practices pediatric anesthesia, acute pain medicine, and pediatric regional anesthesia. Her academic interests include simulation education, acute pain medicine and regional anesthesia, and pediatric anesthesiology. In her spare time, she enjoys scuba diving, watching her son throw food on the ground to feed their golden retriever, and planning their next family adventure. The Director of Pediatric Regional Anesthesia and Perioperative Pain Medicine at the Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland and San Francisco plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective management of pain in pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures. Dr Wong will oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of pain management protocols, policies, and practices for pediatric patients. She will collaborate closely with pediatric surgeons and an interdisciplinary team from pediatric anesthesia and the pediatric pain services (including pediatric pain specialists, nurses, psychologists, physical therapists, and integrative medicine) to provide comprehensive and individualized pain management for pediatric patients throughout their perioperative and inpatient journey. In addition, Dr. Wong has assumed the role of physician co-lead the Transbay Pediatric Pain Committee together with Dr. Nadia Roessler De Angelo, working in partnership with Lena Ngo, RN. We are very indebted to them for their leadership. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Wong in her new role.
