July 1, 2022 By Morgen Ahearn The decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade turns back our country’s clock by 50 years and is a devastating blow to human and reproductive rights. During the pandemic, maternal and pediatric health disparities among women and children of color have risen significantly. This ruling will make it more difficult for these individuals to obtain the essential healthcare services they need and puts millions of Americans at risk of experiencing a dangerous health crisis. The science is clear: restricting abortion access endangers women and families. We denounce the decision to take away reproductive freedom, and we are heartbroken for the people of all genders who have lost the right to make informed decisions about their bodies and access to necessary health care. We are profoundly worried about the effect this ruling will have on our patients. As a department, we will continue to use our voices to advocate for equitable health care policies. Sincerely, Faculty, Staff, Residents, Fellows, and CRNAs Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care University of California, San Francisco
