Pediatric Anesthesiology at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (BCH) Oakland is dedicated to caring for the diverse communities of Oakland and the greater East Bay. Now in its third year, the team continues a proud tradition of delivering safe, efficient, and timely care to pediatric patients from the Bay Area and beyond.

As a Level 1 pediatric trauma center and the East Bay’s leading children’s hospital, BCH Oakland stands at the forefront of pediatric care. We offer anesthesia services across various specialties, including in operating rooms, radiology suites, sedation suites, pediatric cardiac surgery, pediatric pain management, and the pediatric pre-op clinic.

Currently staffed with 12 full-time faculty pediatric anesthesia and pediatric cardiac anesthesia providers, the group is poised for further growth. This year, we are launching an interventional pediatric pain program with Dr. Caro Monico, a pediatric anesthesiologist with additional board certification in pediatric pain medicine. We are committed to enhancing patient care and addressing the complex needs of pediatric patients in the East Bay.

Beyond patient care, Pediatric Anesthesiology at BCH Oakland continues to uphold its tradition of excellence in medical education. Faculty members are actively involved in training and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, providing hands-on experience, lectures, and guidance to the next generation of anesthesiologists.
