Ambulatory Surgery Centers

The Bayfront Surgery Center opened in August 2024. We are running 8-10 ORs on any given day with case numbers surpassing original budgets. Plans to open two additional ORs by Summer 2025 offer new opportunities for outpatient spine surgery, breast and plastic surgery, and vascular surgery and orthopedics in the future. Bayfront is proud to provide care to a diverse and medically complex patient population. We regularly perform complex airway procedures using jet ventilation and are actively growing our outpatient robotic surgery program. Our overnight stay beds are being put to beneficial use and provide additional flexibility for us to perform more complex procedures that necessitate a period of close observation.

Our newest ambulatory surgery center in Burlingame, the Peninsula Outpatient Center (POPC), is slated to open in Spring 2025. This will be UCSF’s first destination for outpatient surgery in the Peninsula. The medical building houses outpatient clinics, imaging and infusion services, and a four-OR ambulatory surgery center (ASC). The ASC will provide endoscopy and interventional pain services, OHNS, breast, plastic surgery, orthopedics, and general surgery. We are excited to announce Dr. Stephanie Lim as our interim lead anesthesiologist for POPC. Her responsibilities will include overseeing operations at the facility in partnership with Dr. Tyler Chernin and Executive Nursing Director Debbie Gee.

The Parnassus Outpatient Surgery Center (POSC) was converted to an outpatient endoscopy center after the opening of Bayfront at the end of August 2024. This busy center primarily performs endoscopy procedures using moderate sedation services provided by trained endoscopy nurses. We will be running 3-4 rooms of endoscopy with anesthesia services starting in June 2025.
