Biography After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, I completed medical school training as well as anesthesia residency and fellowship at UCSF. I also received a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from UC Berkeley and a Master of Science in Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. As a clinician, I spent the majority of my career caring for patients in the adult intensive care units at UCSF Medical Center, though also had the privilege of providing perioperative care for both pediatric and adult cardiac surgical patients among other clinical roles and responsibilities. In addition to my clinical roles I have had a number of administrative roles in the School of Medicine, Medical Staff UCSF and on committees of the Systemwide Academic Senate. Within UCSF, I served as the Chair of the Faculty Council for the School of Medicine and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Vice Dean for Affiliations, Partnerships and Compliance for the School of Medicine as well as having a variety of leadership roles for the UCSF Medical Staff. Beyond UCSF, I have had leadership roles in a number of professional societies, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists where I served as Chair for the Section on Professional Practice and a longstanding member of the Committees on Economics, Practice Management and Academic Anesthesiology. I have also had the opportunity to serve as a member and chair of the Anesthesia Residency Review Committee for ACGME, President of the (former) Society of Critical Care Medicine (now, SOCCA) and the chair for the critical care examination committee of the American Board of Anesthesiology. I have also served on the Board of Directors and Chair for El Camino Hospital, an outstanding clinical facility and district hospital in Mountain View.
