Biography

I am a Professor Emeritus at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), with appointments in the Departments of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care, and Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences. My academic career focused on obstetric anesthesia, fetal surgery anesthesia, and fetal monitoring. I held several leadership roles at UCSF, including Vice Chair of the Department of Anesthesia, Director of Obstetric Anesthesia, and Director of Residency Training—a position I held for 25 years. For the past decade, I have served as Chief Medical Officer of a medical device startup developing innovative technology for intrapartum fetal surveillance.
