Biography Dr. Lee-lynn Chen is an anesthesiologist who cares for patients before and during surgery, as well as for those in the intensive care unit. He also cares for patients with complicated, chronic medical, surgical or neurological pain. Chen's research focuses on raising the quality of pain management, in the areas of both patient care and education. Working with various departments across UCSF, he is a leader in promoting enhanced recovery after surgery – a multidisciplinary effort to improve surgical outcomes and enhance patients' experiences. He is also passionate about the education of medical students and residents, with a particular interest in how using simulation-based courses can improve anesthesia education. Chen earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester. He completed a residency in anesthesia at UCSF, where he also completed a fellowship in critical care medicine. Chen is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, California Society of Anesthesiologists, International Anesthesia Research Society, Society for Simulation in Healthcare, Association of University Anesthesiologists and American Society for Enhanced Recovery.
