Biography Dr. Leung is Professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at the University of California, San Francisco. She is also the director of the Perioperative Medicine Research Group based at UCSF. Her research program focuses on outcomes improvement of the older patients presenting for surgery. For the past 20 years, her team has focused on improving the cognitive outcomes of older patients after surgery. Their research utilizes both cohort studies and large-scale randomized control trials to understand the pathophysiology of postoperative delirium and cognitive decline after major surgery, both conditions have been demonstrated to have adverse consequences on post-discharge and long-term outcomes for the older patients. Their work is well recognized in the field of perioperative cognitive outcomes.
