Biography

David Chen is a statistician in the UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care. He collaborates with clinician-scientists to design and analyze studies in anesthesia, critical care, and perioperative medicine, with a focus on developing statistically and causally rigorous approaches to complex clinical questions. His expertise includes causal inference, survival and longitudinal analysis, and semi-parametric targeted machine learning methods.
   
David joined UCSF in 2023 after earning his PhD in Biostatistics from the University of California, Berkeley, where his research focused on integrating causal inference frameworks with efficient estimation techniques for time-to-event outcomes. His current work at UCSF spans clinical trials and observational studies addressing topics such as intraoperative hemodynamic management, postoperative outcomes, and kidney injury in critical illness.
