December 15, 2025 By Hannah Fairbanks The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care held its 13th Annual Anesthesia Research Day (ARD) on December 5, 2025. This annual event was founded by former Vice Chair for Research, the late Dr. William Young, to showcase department research and provide an opportunity to network with colleagues. Over 100 department members attended. After a lunch buffet and opening remarks by Drs. Michael Gropper and Judith Hellman, the 2025 program began with a guest lecture by Vivianne Tawfik, MD, PhD from Stanford University on “Clinically-Informed Basic Science for the Study of Chronic Pain.” Dr. Hellman presented her with a plaque to commemorate the occasion. A series of oral presentations and “ePosters” (5-minute oral presentations) highlighted the research of junior faculty and research trainees, each selected by the ARD abstract review committee. The day culminated in a general poster session, which included 47 posters presented by faculty, residents, fellows, postdocs, students, and staff. The 13th Annual Anesthesia Research Day was organized by Drs. Michael Gropper, Judith Hellman, Helen Kim, and Kate Alfieri, along with Julie Leong, Nancy Ha, and Alexandra Romero. Dr. Paul Su hosted the guest lecturer and Drs. Zhonghui Guan and Rachel Schwartz moderated the oral presentations and ePosters. View a recording of ARD 2025. See more photos from the day.
