Description

Alice A. Tolbert Coombs, MD, board certified Critical Care Specialist, Anesthesiologist, and Internist, completed a master’s in public administration at the Harvard Kennedy School, Massachusetts, with a focus on health care policy, leadership and negotiations. She is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, and Vice President of Operations, Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health. Dr Coombs has served as Medicare Payment Advisory Commissioner (MEDPAC) for six years, making recommendations to Congress, concerning Medicare payment to physicians, hospitals and other providers, as well as payments for drugs, durable medical equipment and other entities. Dr Coombs has worked with professional societies to analyze the impact of health care reform on minorities and vulnerable populations. She is the former Vice Chair of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine’s Patient Care Assessment Committee and a past chair of the Massachusetts Medical Society's Committee on Diversity in Medicine.
