Adult Critical Care Medicine

Adult Critical Care continues to experience significant growth and evolution. This expansion is reflected in the increasing number of anesthesia-trained intensivists, strengthening our ability to deliver high-quality, multidisciplinary critical care across the health system.

We have recently broadened our clinical footprint with new coverage responsibilities in the Stanyan ICU, further enhancing our presence and integration within UCSF Health’s critical care network. In parallel, we are actively developing and refining collaborative care agreements with multiple services within UCSF, fostering a more cohesive and innovative model for the management of complex critically ill patients.

A growing cohort of UCSF anesthesia intensivists is pursuing Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) certification, underscoring our commitment to advancing expertise in this highly specialized domain. These efforts are directly contributing to the expansion and maturation of the ECLS program at UCSF Health, positioning it as a leader in advanced life support therapies.

In addition to clinical growth, we remain deeply committed to academic excellence. Faculty continue to provide strong leadership and active participation in research initiatives, driving innovation and contributing to the advancement of critical care medicine at UCSF and beyond.
