Ambulatory Surgery Centers

Bayfront Surgery Center celebrated its one-year anniversary in August 2025. We opened two additional operating rooms in the fall of 2025 and are now running 11 operating rooms and one procedure room on most days. Bayfront continues to be a major success—case volumes are exceeding budget, and we’ve decanted a significant proportion of ambulatory surgical cases out of Mission Bay and Parnassus to make room for more complex inpatient surgeries. Bayfront remains proud to serve a diverse, medically complex patient population. We regularly perform complex airway procedures using jet ventilation, are working on expanding our outpatient robotic surgery program, and have recently started performing minimally invasive spine surgery. Our overnight stay beds are being put to good use by supporting more complex cases that require closer post‑op observation.

The Peninsula Outpatient Center (POPC) in Burlingame opened in Spring 2025 as UCSF’s first Peninsula destination for outpatient surgery. The medical building houses outpatient clinics, imaging and infusion services, and a four‑OR ambulatory surgery center. POPC provides endoscopy and interventional pain services, OHNS, breast and plastic surgery, orthopedics, and general surgery. We’re pleased to have Dr. Stephanie Lim as our lead anesthesiologist for POPC who partners with POPC Medical Director Dr. Tyler Chernin to help manage day-to-day operations at POPC. Operational delays at POPC have resulted in a slower than expected ramp up in surgical cases, but we expect to see more surgical volume by the summer of 2026.

The Parnassus Outpatient Surgery Center (POSC) is now a very busy outpatient endoscopy center. Procedures are performed under a mix of moderate sedation and monitored anesthesia care. Our department regularly staffs 3-4 procedural rooms per day at POSC.
