Studying how clinical practices, care pathways, and health-system processes affect perioperative outcomes, quality, safety, and resource utilization.

Summary

We study how perioperative systems, clinical practices, and care pathways influence patient outcomes. Our work focuses on identifying modifiable variation in care and developing pragmatic approaches to improve quality, safety, equity, patient experience, and healthcare resource utilization.

Many of these questions emerge directly from clinical practice. We use clinical outcomes data, electronic health record data, quality-improvement methods, and prospective clinical investigation to evaluate common perioperative practices and determine how care can be delivered more safely and effectively.
