Investigating analgesic strategies, perioperative outcomes, and patient-centered approaches to anesthesia for neurosurgical and other complex surgical populations.

Summary

We examine how anesthetic and analgesic strategies, communication, and perioperative systems influence outcomes for patients undergoing neurosurgical and other complex procedures. Drawing on clinical experience in neuroanesthesia and acute pain medicine, we are particularly interested in approaches that improve analgesia and patient experience while preserving neurologic assessment, facilitating intraoperative participation when needed, and supporting postoperative recovery.

This work also provides a bridge between our clinical investigation and health-services research. Prior research has examined how language barriers affect length of stay, hospitalization cost, and discharge after craniotomy for brain tumor, demonstrating how communication and systems-level factors can influence neurosurgical recovery.
