UC Cross-Campus Collaboration Yields Low-Cost PAPR

""

UCSF Anesthesia and Perioperative Care faculty members Jeff Sall, MD, PhD, and Dave Robinowitz, MD, MHS, MS, have team up with UC Berkeley associate professors of electrical engineering and computer sciences Prabal Dutta and Robert Pilawa-Podgurski, to develop low-cost powered air-purified respirators (PAPR) with easily sourced materials. With certification, it is hoped that these models could provide equivalent protection for healthcare workers performing high-risk aerosolizing procedures as commercially available units, for a fraction of the cost.
