Language-related disparities in post-anesthesia pain management care were identified by authors Anjali Dixit, Holly Elser, Catherine Chen, Marla Ferschl and Solmaz Manuel in the October 2020 issue of Children (Basel). Tina Vu, Joyce Chang, Kristine Breyer and Odmara Barreto Chang are collaborating to improve intraoperative communication with patients whose first language is not English. By continuing language translation from the preoperative area into the operating room, the “Anesthesia – Translating Anesthetic Care Throughout (TACT),” project leaders hope to reduce health disparities and ultimately improve outcomes for patients with limited English proficiency. Drs. Vu (pictured) and team were recently awarded a grant from the Mount Zion Health Fund to support the TACT project over the next year.
