February 21, 2020

Dr. Charlene Blake speaking to SFUSD students at SCORE 2020Conceived of and led by Assistant Professor of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care, Charlene Blake, MD, PhD, the third annual Students Capturing the OR Experience (SCORE) program hosted San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) high school students from underrepresented in medicine backgrounds, for a day of immersive, experiential education sessions, lectures, and mentoring, on Friday, February 21, 2020.

Students were able to meet role models and received mentorship and concrete, hands-on education about various health science careers and specialties, including surgery, anesthesia, medicine, and nursing. The SCORE program is just one way we are pushing to increase the percentage of under-represented students and faculty in medicine and the sciences, to better reflect the communities we serve, and ensure we are best equipped to support and promote their health and well-being.
