The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at UC San Francisco is seeking to fill a variety of both faculty and staff physician positions to join us in providing outstanding patient care, promoting cutting-edge basic and clinical science research, and educating the next generation of health care providers while fostering diversity, equity and inclusion across the organization. The department ranks as one of the largest departments in the UCSF School of Medicine, with 240 faculty, 20 staff physicians, 87 residents, 18 fellows, 68 CRNAs, 30 research academics and postdocs, and 210 staff employees.

Very active units of the department exist in locations all over San Francisco as well as at the Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland. The department has essential roles in patient care outside of the operating rooms, with active participation in ambulatory care, acute and chronic pain, critical care and in the preoperative clinic.

Faculty Positions

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at UCSF offers faculty a comprehensive package which includes the following:

  • $400K-$600K combined base and incentive pay
  • Academic appointment commensurate with experience

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, OaklandThe Department is seeking pediatric anesthesiology faculty to work at Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland (BCH Oakland) as a part of a team emphasizing high quality, patient-centered perioperative care with a focus on evidence-based medicine. This is an outstanding opportunity to practice 100% pediatric anesthesiology and join an established Anesthesia Department with a national reputation of excellence in education, research, and perioperative care. Anesthesia faculty participate on a team of approximately 23 faculty members working at BCH Oakland (a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma hospital) as a part of the UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care.

 

Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital

Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma CenterThe Department is seeking faculty to work at Zuckerberg San Francisco Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) as a part of a team emphasizing high quality, patient-centered perioperative care with a focus on evidence-based medicine. ZSFG, located in San Francisco’s Mission District, is the only Level 1 Trauma Center available for the over 1.5 million people living and working in San Francisco and northern San Mateo counties. ZSFG is also a safety-net hospital that provides 24-hour comprehensive emergent, urgent and non-urgent care to more than 100,000 adult and pediatric patients annually.

Faculty Leadership Roles

Director of Trauma and Acute Care Anesthesia at ZSFG

The Director of Trauma and Acute Care Anesthesia (DTACA) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is responsible for all trauma care relevant efforts, including but not limited to strategy, planning, clinical care, operations, quality & performance improvement, education, and research in order to maintain and expand the state-of-the-art trauma and acute care anesthesia operation for ZSFG. Equally, the DTACA is tasked to ensure a national reputation and produce a visible and active engagement furthering the subspecialty of Trauma and Acute Care Anesthesia. The DTACA is asked to coordinate and initiate trauma and acute care centric research within the Department, as well as building and expanding collaborations with other departments.

Division Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia at BCH Oakland

The Division Chief at Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland (BCH Oakland) will provide leadership for approximately 23 faculty members working at BCH Oakland (a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma hospital) in order to support the department mission in patient care, research, education, and public service. The Division Chief reports to the Anesthesia Department Chair. This position requires significant professional clinical practice and leadership with an aptitude for providing evidence based, high quality care in clinical teams that enhance the patient experience with a commitment to patient safety and satisfaction.

Operating room at UCSF Medical Center

Staff Physician Positions

The department is seeking both full-time and per diem Staff Physicians to provide general OR coverage at UCSF Health locations (Mount Zion, Mission Bay and Parnassus).  Staff physicians work alone or may supervise CRNAs while providing clinical care in the operating rooms. Fixed shifts are available.

Staff Physicians receive concurrent academic appointments without salary.

UCSF Anesthesia offers full-time Staff Physicians a comprehensive package which includes the following:

  • $323,640 base for 40 hours/week
  • $200/hour for overtime and additional shifts
  • Choice of UC pension plan or 401K with match
  • 18 vacation days, 12 sick days and 14 holidays per year
  • Comprehensive health benefits package
  • Eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness
  • Without-salary academic appointment commensurate with experience
  • Department-paid CA Medical License, DEA, ASA and CSA membership, ACLS Certification, MOCA 2.0 and Simulation Course, plus additional society membership
