Odi Ehie, MD, speaking with SFUSD students at UCSF SCORE 2020

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Odi Ehie on her appointment as the Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for the UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care.

Dr. Ehie’s appointment completes a national search for the preeminent candidate for this position. While showcasing the outstanding work done by many candidates, this national search highlighted the incredibly groundbreaking work that Dr. Ehie is doing in the field of DEI and the national reputation she has built for herself and UCSF.

Dr. Ehie received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and was an internal medicine intern at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center before completing her anesthesia residency at New York University Langone Medical Center. Prior to joining us at UCSF, Dr. Ehie graduated from a pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Stanford University/Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, where she subsequently held a clinical instructor appointment.

Dr. Ehie has chaired the California Society of Anesthesiologists' (CSA) Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion since July of 2020. In the past year she has also worked with an UCSF Center for Global Surgery and Health Equity team to build a health equity curriculum for anesthesia and surgery residents, garnered an American Society of Anesthesiologists' (ASA)  Mentoring Grant to conduct a survey of microagressions in the workplace, and led multiple DEI centered lectures and workshops, including at the National Medical Association 2020 conference, at the University of Arizona, and internally at UCSF, at both the School of Medicine and departmental level. In 2019, she completed her second consecutive mission in Vietnam with Health Volunteer Overseas and the Society of Education in Anesthesia Fellowship Program.

We are especially thankful for our amazing search committee:
