Martin London, MD, Publishes Important Retrospective Study on Perioperative Statin Exposure

UCSF Anesthesia and Perioperative Care and SFVAMC Professor Martin London’s recent analysis of a national cohort of veterans undergoing noncardiac surgery showed an association between early perioperative statin use and reduced all-cause perioperative mortality and several cardiovascular and noncardiovascular complications. The study, “Association of Perioperative Statin Use With Mortality and Morbidity After Major Noncardiac Surgery,” can help “facilitate informed hypothesis generation and more efficient trial design” to further test the efficacy of perioperative statin use in reducing patients’ perioperative complications.

The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) on December 19, 2016, and was recently featured in the NY Times.
