First-Annual Anesthesia in Resource-Constrained Settings (ARCS) Course

Lead by Maytinee Lilaonitkul, the Anesthesia Division of Global Health Equity conducted its first annual Anesthesia in Resource-Constrained Settings (ARCS) Course for senior anesthesia residents at UCSF. 

The course covers topics including:

  • Simulation scenarios on practice with limited resources   
  • Drugs commonly encountered in resource-constrained settings
  • Introduction to drawover vaporizers
  • Resuscitation, transfusions and vascular access with limited resources
  • Airway management and monitoring
  • Troubleshooting gas supplies and oxygen concentrators

 

The course has been integrated into the core curriculum for all UCSF Anesthesia resident and and is part of a 3-year longitudinal global health curriculum for all anesthesia trainees.
