Unlike traditional medical school curriculum, the UCSF Bridges Curriculum takes an innovative approach to medical education, where foundational science concepts are integrated with clinical skills throughout the four-year schedule. The Bridges Curriculum was designed to prepare students for a changing healthcare environment of rapidly expanding knowledge, new science, and cutting-edge technologies. Beginning April 1, 2019, Assistant Professor Charlene Blake, MD, PhD, will assume the role of Co-Director of the Introduction to Career Launch and Coda Courses. In this role, Dr. Blake will be responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of these courses:
Career Launch is the last of the three educational phases of the Bridges Curriculum. During Career Launch, learners learn a core curriculum that ensures that students form their professional identity and are prepared to practice clinically in a 21st century healthcare system. Additionally, they prepare for their chosen residency with a personalized approach to advanced clinical learning.
Introduction to Career Launch (ICL): This course provides students with the important clinical curriculum in support of their upcoming clinical rotations and their further development towards physicianship. The course is divided into 4 themes, a) Working Together, b) Communication, c) Transitions and d) Clinical Care / Urgencies / Emergencies. ICL will require significant curricular design and recruitment of faculty.
CODA: This course provides a capstone experience to prepare students for their chosen residency. Provides general and specialty specific preparatory content.
