Dept-paid stipend

PGY-1 through PGY-5:  $5,000 ($1,250 quarterly)*Contingent upon timely completion of administrative tasks, i.e., duty hours, evaluations, case logs, and training modules.

Non-reimbursable expense

DEA licenses fees are waived for all trainees in UCSF ACGME program.

Reimbursable expenses

USMLE step 3 examination fee: The Department pays for the USMLE Step 3 exam fee. The Step 3 exam is taken during the intern year before the beginning of CA-1 year. Successful completion of this examination is required in order to obtain medical licensure in the State of California and start CA-1 year.

Medical licenses: The Department will pay California Medical License fees incurred during residency or fellowship training. DEA license fees are waived for UCSF house staff.

ABA examination fees: The Department will pay for the ABA BASIC Examination fee, Anesthesiology Certification Application fee, and Anesthesiology Certification Examination (Part 1 Exam) fee. If the resident registers late, the Department will only pay the “on-time” registration fee.

ACLS certification: Residents must maintain ACLS certification throughout residency. The Department will arrange an ACLS course for those residents who require certification.

Conference travel expenses: The Department will pay for travel expenses and poster printing fees for all approved poster presenters. Travel expenses include airfare, transportation to and from airport/conference, lodging, registration fee, and airport/hotel parking fee.

Professional society memberships: The Department will pay for the following professional society memberships, which include subscription to the journals Anesthesiology, and Anesthesia & Analgesia.

  • American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA)
  • California Society of Anesthesiologists (CSA) 
  • International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS)

 

Voalte phones: The Department provides Voalte Phones to residents free of charge. The Anesthesia Education Office (S436) serves as the central phone distribution center for the Department.
