Christina Coleman
CA-1
Christina was set on California for residency. Having grown up in Southern California, her east coast undergraduate and medical school careers left her missing "home".
Yet for all her interviews, she's here in San Francisco instead of down south. "This place has prestige, yet is also very inviting." Referring to names like Dr. Ron Miller, Dr. John Severinghaus, and Dr. Edmond Eger, Christina felt the prestige behind UCSF's Anesthesia program would lend itself to training amongst pioneers. Now here and steeped in the residency program, Christina feels it's a great mix of older, established faculty along with new faculty and technology.
While many of the names she mentions are research giants, Christina is actually focused in Critical Care medicine. "My internship was here at UCSF, and I really enjoyed helping very sick patients." Of the critical care tracks offered here she notes the high percentage of critical care medicine trained faculty on staff as compared to other anesthesia departments, She says, "so many of the doctors had critical care backgrounds, which I thought was great."
Though she enjoys San Francisco's city feel, she commutes over the Bay Bridge from Oakland in a community she describes as "quaint". Indeed there's an environment for everyone's liking just an arm's reach from the San Francisco hub.
