50 Years of UCSF Anesthesia

UCSF 50th Anniversary

Welcome to UCSF Anesthesia Research.

Residency training is the first major step to learning the art and science of Anesthesiology.  Part and parcel of excellence in this pursuit is developing scholarship.  The teaching and learning that take place during residency is primarily concerned with  things that are known. In research training, we can address those things that are not known, or not known well-enough. In so doing, we can assure delivery of the highest-quality care to our patients as we move forward, both by discovery of new approaches and improvements in current practice.

Creation of new knowledge is vital to the future of biomedicine and in particular our specialty. The department is committed to helping residents, fellows, and junior faculty succeed in identifying and pursuing important research questions. This commitment runs deep, both historically and in the present.  On behalf of our Chair, Dr. Maze and the entire faculty, I can tell you that scholarship in research is a major departmental mission and priority, and will be appropriately encouraged and supported. Please feel free to contact me about questions related to our helping you establish a successful research career.

Sincerely,
WL Young
